We cut them back to shape, off the house and off the path, and haul the clippings away.

Cutting at the wrong time costs you the flowers
Timing matters more with pruning than with anything else in a yard. Cut a spring bloomer in the fall and you have just removed next year's flowers. Take too much off an overgrown laurel at once and it comes back bare. Tell us what you have and we will tell you when it should be cut, even if that means coming back later.
